Tomorrow morning is the Krispy-Kreme Challenge 4-mile run here in Raleigh, NC. Two miles from the NC State bell tower down to one of the original Krispy Kreme stores, eat a dozen donuts, and then run 2 miles back to the bell tower. All in under an hour.
This is one of the coolest events I’ve ever done – or really – ever even heard of. It’s a fundraiser for a local charity and began years ago as a late-night Fraternity dare that has since turned into a huge event! People come from all over the country to participate now. It was even covered on ESPN last year!
We did it a few years ago and had a blast! We participated as casual runners (which meant we didn’t have to eat the dozen donuts in the middle, thanks). We saw lots of great costumes, lots of kids hurling on the roads of a ritzy neighborhood, and some really energetic college kids! I think we laughed more than we actually ran!
We registered for the race this year, but it’s going to be cold and rainy and we need to get on the road to Savannah somewhat early, so we have decided to pass on the run and just pick up the t-shirts and free donuts instead. I hate that we’re missing it because it was such a fun event, but I’m glad that it’s growing so huge that it’s selling out months ahead of time!
